Safety...

 Avoid Distractions:

Personal safety should be the first thought that guides your decisions. Be safety smart means avoiding distractions, especially while operating a vehicle. Here are a few important reminders to help you stay safe.

1...DON'T TEXT WHILE DRIVING... It is against the law in California,to send, read or compose text messages while driving. Currently, 9 states have laws banning texting while driving.

2...SLOW DOWN, "ARRIVE ALIVE,"... take the time to do tasks properly. Travel and work at a safe pace to reduce the risk of an accident. Obey all traffic signs when operating your vehicle.

3... PAY ATTENTION... It is easy to become sidetracked and distracted. Always focus on what you are doing, where you are going and what's happening around you.

DID YOU KNOW...

80% of Californians ranked cell phone use, texting and talking,as the most serious distractuions for drivers? People not getting enough rest, driving to long is another great concern.

remember what Dr Lee says..."Arrive Alive!!!"

History and Heritage:

 Down the rabbit hole;

On April 13,1984, the newly refurbished Alice in Wonderland reopened to the public with and additional 50 feet of track, making it the longest dark attraction at Disneyland. A manic Mad Hatter emceed the event and White Rabbit-running late as usual- cut the ribbon. The attraction takes Guests down the rabbit hole to follow Alice through the fanciful world of Wonderland. Along the way Guests encounter a talking doornob, a Hookah-smoking Caterpillar and a rather cranky Queen of Hearts. Keen-eyed Guests might spot a hidden Mickey made of splattered paint in the rose garden.

Remember it's opening day...Dr Lee

April 22,earth day!!!!!

Last year, 311,873,713 pounds of material was recycled at the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts- roughly the weight of 891,068 Dumbo flying elephant attraction vehicles. With results like this, it's important that we continue to promote programs, policies and best practices to help conserve the natural world and increase environmental awareness.

In 2013,Disneyland showed how we went outside and connected with nature. Earth Month 2014 is the perfect time to take the next step and help protect nature for future generations. Here are some of the ways Disneyland Resort Cast Members have been making a difference.

1...Food Scraps Diversion....59 Food and Beverage locations at the Disneyland Resort have been capturing seven tons of food scraps per day, which are turned into animal feed.  Roughly the weight of an Indiana Jones Adventure attraction vehicle in food scraps each day.

2...Electric Vehicle Charging... A total of 30 ChargePoint electric vehicle charging ports were installed in the Mickey & Friends and Team Disney Anahiem parking structures. The Disneyland Resort now has one of the largest collections of privately owned, publicly visited EV charging stations in Southern California.

3...Cardboard Recycling... Recycling at the Disneyland Resort has been expanded to include all types cardboard, instead of only corrugated. This has resulted in a 23 percent increase in loose cardboard recycling.

4...Temperature Set Points... Temperature set points ensure we are not overheating or cooling all of our indoor spaces- both onstage and backstage. Our commitment to these set points has helped contribute to a 10.7 percent reduction in electricity use for the resort since 2006, despite higher attendance, hotel occupancy and longer operating hours for our parks.

5...Goodwill Partnership... Over the past year, the Disneyland Resort expanded our partnership with Goodwill by donating items such as used Cast Member shoes, a variety of costumes and mattresses from our resort hotels.

6...Circle D Composting... The resort saw a 72 percent increase in the first quarter of fiscal 2014 in composting at Circle D with the addition of coffee grouds from resort restaurants and laundry lint from the Disneyland Hotel industrial dyers.

Did you know????

1... The average Californian uses about 192 gallons of water a day?

2...Turn water off when brushing teeth or shaving?

3...Soak pot and pans instead of letting the water run while you scrape them clean?

4...Use the washing machine and dishwasher only when full?

5...Water outdoor plants at night to prevent evaporation and install drip tubing instad of sprinklers?

6...Use only the water you need, do not leave the faucet runnung unnecessarily?

Did you know this about Dr Lee at Club 33...

Back about 1992, I started recycling all glass bottles at my location, Club 33 bar. With the blessings of my then manager, Tom, I was given 2 big yellow bins for behind the bar. As drinks were made or poured, all glass was then place inside these bins. In the mid 80's, I still remember throwing away daily large amounts of glass mixed with food waste. This recycling project increased my closing daily duties, and many a bartender at night wasn't fond of this added duty.
To this day ,I have been told it still continues.Habits are hard to change......Dr Lee

Hold on to your hats and glasses:

The wildest ride in the wilderness is back!!!!!

Almost 35 years ago the abandoned mines of Big Thunder Mountain opened, inviting Guests on a spirited journey through "the wildest ride in the wilderness." After being closed for a major refurbishment over the past 14 months, the runaway mine train attractionis now back on track (a brand new one!!) to the delight of Guests and Cast alike.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad first opened in 1979, so it was time for a major rebuild with all-new track, trains, lighting, audio and show elements that needed upgrading. The town of Rainbow Ridge, a Frontierland staple dating back to the 1956 Rainbow Caverns Mine Train attraction, was completely rebuilt with the original blueprints and artifacts.

The attraction officially reopened to guests on March 17, Cast Members had an opportunity to ride during a test-and-adjust period in late February and early March.

The refurbishment project- a partnership between the Disneyland Resort Facility Asset Management team and Walt Disney Imagineering- required 46 months of planning and coordination to replace a half-mile of track, miles of electrical wire and tens of thousands of square feet of rockwork. The project included the expansion of the two unloading areas- as well as a new exit ramp that has greatly improved accessibility for Guests with disabilities. The expansion has reduced congestion on the platforms to improve efficiency while Guests are exiting the vehicles.

There are new surprises on the attraction, too. We can't reveal what happens when Guests reach the dynamite, but let's just say they are guaranteed to have a blast!!!!!!

DID YOU KNOW?

1...The original Rainbow Caverns Mine Train attraction (later called Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland) transported Guests around Frontierland from 1956 to 1977.

2...Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was named after one of the two waterfalls found in the original Rainbow Caverns Mine Train attraction,"Big Thunder" and "Little Thunder."

3...Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah and its unique "hoodoos" inspired the look of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

4...More than 230 tons of gold ore were trucked to Disneyland from Silver Queen Mine in the Mojave Dessert.

5...A century-old stamp mill and other mining gear placed throughout the attraction were sourced from abondoned mines in Nevada, Colorado, Minnesota and Wyoming.

6...The sounds of big thunder trains were mixed into the mine chase sequence in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom."

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Legend of Big Thunder!!!!!

Whispers of a supernatural force deep within Big Thunder Mountain were soon forgotten when a prospector discovered gold on its slopes in the late 1860s. The Big Thunder Mountain Mining Company staked its claim, but as prospectors began to dig deeper into the mountain's core with the help of dynamite and explosives, a strange force was awakened. Miners began hearing ghostly sounds and equipment mysteriously failed. When trains began rolling into the station with no human hand at the control, miners soon left in droves.

Big Thunder Mountain Mining remains in operation with only a few daring souls left. However, those brave enough to board a driver-less mine train may find more than gold in the mountain- they'll discover the wildest ride in the wildness.

sounds like fun to me...Dr Lee
