Last chance to see Electrical Parade:

Disney's Electrical Parade began its last run this weekend in Disney's California Adventure.
After spring break,Disney plans to ship the light covered floats and costumes to Cast Members at Walt Disney World in Flordia, where the parade will appear this summer. Disneyland hopes to eventually get it back?
Disneyland decided to relocate the parade partly because the new World of Color, a water and light show, is set to debut in California Adventure this summer. The parade route would have been shortened because of the location of the new show and audience area.
California Adventure has hosted the parade since 2001, usually during holidays, summer and spring breaks. The spectacle debuted in 1972 in Disneyland as the Main Street Electrical Parade, becoming the most popular park parade until it ended in 1996. Then, the parade moved to Florida for five years.
The remaining dates for California parade are: now through April 11 and April 16 and 18. The parade begins at 9 p.m. nightly.

Disney's "Alice in Wonderland:"

Disney's Alice in Wonderland unspooled on March 5,2010, bringing to life via director Tim Burton's wildly creative combination of live-action filmmaking, traditional and CGI animation.
More an extension of Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass" and "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" than a remake, the film, which stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and newcomer Mia Wasikowska, is just the latest adaptation in a collection of films that dates back to 1905.
It also continues Disney's love affair with Alice and her odd acquaintances,as the property is arguably one of the most famous and adored at Disney parks around the world.
Every Disney park has a Fantasyland-based teacup attraction, which goes by different names. At the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts the attraction is known as the Mad Tea Party. The Tokyo Disneyland version is called Alice's Tea Party,Disneyland Paris has Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, and at Hong Kong Disneyland you can ride the similarly-named Mad Hatter Tea Cups. Each of the attractions opened with their respective parks, execpt for the Tokyo rendition, which opened in 1986 (the park opened in 1983).
In addition to the popular teacups, two more Alice in Wonderland-themed attractions exist at different Disney parks.
Here at Disneyland,Alice in Wonderland puts Guests in Alice's shoes as she follows the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole into Wonderland.
At Disneyland Paris, Alice's Curious Ladyrinth is a maze that eventually leads to the castle of the Queen of Hearts. The route has a similar shape to the body of the Cheshire Cat, and Guests can see a sky view of Fantasyland at the very end.

Davey Crockett Passes Away:

Fess Parker, a baby-boomer idol in the 1950's who launched a craze for coonskin caps as television's Davy Crockett, died Thursday March 18,2010 of natural causes, He was 85 years young.
Family spokeswoman Sao Anash said "Mr. Parker," who was also TV's Daniel Boone and later a major California winemaker and developer, died at his Santa Yuez Valley home. His death came on the 84th birthday of his wife of 50 years, Marcella.
The first installment of "Davy Crockett," with Bubby Ebsen as Crockett's sidekick, debuted in December 1954 as part of the "Disneyland" TV show.
The 6-foot, 6-inch Mr. Parker was quickly embraced by youngsters as the man in a coonskin cap who stood for the spirit of the American frontier. Boomers gripped by the Crockett craze scooped up Davy lunch boxes, toy Old Betsy rifles, buckskin shirts and trademark fur caps. "The Ballad of Davy Crockett"(Born on a mountaintop in Tennessee)was a No.1 hit for singer Bill Hayes while Mr.Parker's own version reached No.5.
The first three television episodes were turned into a theatrical film, "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,"in 1955.
True to history, Disney killed off its hero in the third episode, "Davy Crockett at the Alamo,"where the real-life Crockett died in 1836 at age 49.
But spurred by popular demand, Disney brought back the Crockett character for some episodes in the 1955-56 season, including "Davy Crockett's Keelboat Race."
Fess Parker's career leveled off when Crockett craze died down, but he made a TV comeback from 1964-1970 in the title role of the TV adventure series "Daniel Boone"-- also based on a real-life American frontiersman. Actor-singer Ed Ames, formerly of the Ames Brothers, played Boone's Indian friend, Mingo.
After "Daniel Boone," Fess Parker largely retired from show business, expect for guest appearances, and went into real estate.
Several of Fess Parker's films, including "The Great Locomotive Chase" and "Old Yeller," came from the Disney studio.
He bought and sold property, built hotels (including the elegant Fess Parker's Wine Country Inn & Spa in Los Olivos and Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort Santa Barbara) and grew wine grapes on a 2,200-acre vineyard on California Central Coast, where he was dubbed King of the Wine Frontier and coonskin caps enjoyed brisk sales.

The Sherman Brothers:

One morning in July 1960, Richard Sherman sat behind a piano, inside Walt Disney's office with his brother, Robert,by his side. They performed "Strummin Song," and braced for Walt Disney's reaction. Walt simply said, "Yes,that'll work." From that moment on, the Sherman Brothers went on to write unforgettable Disney songs that will live on forever.
One of the most beloved collections of the Sherman Brothers songs is the soundtrack for the 1964 Disney classic Mary Poppins. The first song written for the movie was "Feed the Birds," which became one of Walt's favorites. Occasionally, he would invite the brothers into his office to discuss their work. After some discussion he would say, "play it" and they knew exactly what he wanted to hear.
Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room was the first attraction the brothers wrote music for. They would go on to write for more than ten attractions including General Electric's Carousel of Progress with the song "Great Big Beautiful Tommorrow." To the Sherman Brothers the song is about Walt Disney's optimistic spirit and belief that the future was great, big and beautiful.
But perhaps the most well known Sherman Brothers attraction song is "it's a small world." The song's lyric speaks to the beliefs of the Sherman Brothers- if you are alive, there's a chance for life to be better.
Richard Sherman attributes his success to the opportunities given to him by Walt Disney. He also shares what he thinks makes their music special.
"Our music has the positive feelings of life that is in all Disney products, and we had the opportunity to musicalize them,"said Sherman. 'The thought that we made people happy is a great feeling. All these things make me feel very proud to contribute to this wonderful organization."
To the Sherman Brothers from the Disneyland Resort Cast Members, thank you for your musical legacy and for reminding us that our small world, tomorrow will be beautiful and it takes just one little spark to light the fires of creativity.

Every Role a Starring Role:

With three hotels, two theme parks and the Downtown Disney District, it takes talented Cast Members to keep the Disneyland Resort Show ready for Guests. Take a look at some of the unique roles performed behind the scenes, under water and before attractions open to Guests.

Custodial Lagoon Wader... In Disney's California Adventure interesting items find their way into the shores of Pacific Wharf. When build-up occurs, a Custodial Cast Member dons waders and gets the lagoon Show ready.
The one thing we always stress is safety so Disney Cast members always keep that in mind. Down there Cast Members are just doing their job and Guests ask " how is the fishing going?" Cast Members have to think of new things to say like, " looking for Nemo."

Audio-Animatronics... Ever wonder how Captain Jack Sparrow's hair stays so, well...Captain Jack? Early in the morning a team of Cast Members check the wigs on all the displays and Audio-Animatronics figures. In addition to maintaining the wigs, they also create them.
Cast Members take alot of pride in what they do because we know millions of people see it. Cast Members wrote a mission statement that states,"When you are doing your work, think of it as if Walt were watching you." We were writing it for fun, but then we realized it was great inspiration."

Machinist Divers...These diving trained machinists inspect the track, figures and subs of Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. These Cast Members do the same job as other machinists-they just do it under water.
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is a favorite attraction to alot of these Cast Members. They get to swim around in it every night. It looks like you're diving in the Great Barries Reef.

Pattern Makers...Every Disney costume tells a story. Creative pattern makers work together with the costume designers to outfit Cast Members. These Cast Members like the fact that their not just making patterns for the garment industry, it's more creative. These Cast Members get to deal with a lot of fun fabrics. There is a big story behind everything that is going on so it's more than just making a pair of shorts.

Sound Mechanics...When Disneyland Park first opened, music was recorded on more than 100 miles of magnetic tape each year. Now all sound is converted ti digital mastering. These Cast Members have the entire library for the Resort is here. When a card or a CD goes bad they, it is replaced.

Visual Merchandising...Merchandise locations transform overnight with assistance from visual merchandising Cast Members. The team strategically places items on the shelves by color and character order.
These Cast Members have a method to their madness. They want something to look impactful and make a clean statement. That is what visual merchandising is all about. When Guests walk by, we want to really wow them.

Window Display Artist...Throughout the entire Resort there are hundreds of window displays maintained by these specialty artists.
These Cast Members can create miniature environments in the windows. Even if you love history you can bring that into your window. These Cast Members interpret through fabrics, props and color.Windows can be made for someone in particular.

Koi Experts...A few Cast Members maintain the koi pond at the Disneyland Hotel including caring for newborn koi in special tanks. Twice a week these Cast Members host unique Guest interactions allowing them to hand feed the fish.

Painters...Over time many of the painted areas need touch ups. Each night painters head out around the Resort to restore the luster to the magic. One of the specialties of the painters is to re-create the natural textures of the elements they work with. Whether it be wood or marble the painters attention to detail re-creates the beauty of nature's wonders. When the painter mimics the natural qualities of the wood it is important to pay attention to the colors of the wood.
