Make Halloween a night of delight:

This Halloween, say "boo" to unsafe conditions. When the grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize, take precautions to make this Halloween not a night of fright but of safe delight.

TRIP OR TREAT?    Make sure your child's costume isn't to long that it is a tripping hazard. According to the National Safety Council, falls are the leading cause of unintentional injuries on Halloween, so select a flame-retardant costume that fits well and consider adding reflective tape or striping for enhanced visibility.

HEALTHY HALLOWEEN:    Before allowing a child to eat Halloween candy, inspect it!!!! The U.S. Food and Drug Administration suggests that adults should inspect commercially wrapped treats for signs of tampering, such as an unusual appearance or discoloration, tiny pinholes or tears in wrappers and throw away anything that looks suspicious. Instruct your child not to eat any candy until you've inspected it together.

HAPPY HAUNTS:    When trick-or-treating, teach your kids to only travel in familiar areas along an established route and to stop only at well-lit houses or apartments. Before going out, designate a meeting location and time, and make sure you have a way to communicate with your child.

Oswald The Lucky Rabbit:

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, one of Walt Disney's earliest cartoon stars, has made his way off the page and into sunny Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure Park. Over the past couple of years, Guests have been donning rabbit ear hats and enjoying Oswald ice cream sundaes at Clarabelle's. Now, Guests can meet the lucky rabbit himself.

Oswald made his film debut Sept. 5,1927, in the cartoon short "Trolley Troubles". Walt went on to produce 26 Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts before losing the rights to the character in 1928. It was that experience that inspired the creation of Mickey Mouse-and the rest is history. Oswald finally returned to the Disney family in 2006 and made his first Disney parks appearance earlier this year at Tokyo DisneySea.

Oswald is scheduled to make appearances from park open to 7 p.m. daily between the entrance turnstiles and Hyperion Bridge.

A "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" Day:

On July 17, 1989, Splash Mountain opened at Disneyland, joining the park's other famous mountain attractions, Matterhorn Bobsleds,Space Mountain and Big Thunder Railroad. Peaking at 87 feet tall, the attraction  features characters from the animated sequences of Walt Disney's classic film "Song of the South."

The film comes to life as Guests board a hollowed-out log vehicle to join the clever Brer Rabbit on his search for a "Laughin Place," encountering trouble with Brer Bear and  Brer Fox along the way. Critters serenade the travelers  with songs from the film as the log floats downstream, eventually careening five stories down Chick-A-Pin Hill and splashing into Briar Patch.

The attraction's finale reminds Brer Rabbit and Guests about the comforts of home and guarantees a " Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah"day. The showboat in the finale was also the largest animated prop at the time, measuring 50 feet wide and 30 feet high.

Many of the 100 Audio-Animatronics figures were repurposed from the America Sings attraction, which closed in 1988.

The addition of Splash Mountain-along with a new restaurant, Harbor Galley, and two new shops- capped a project to transform the land, formerly known as Bear Country, into Critter Country.
