25 years ago, 'The Little Mermaid'.....
On Nov.17,1989, Disney's "The Little Mermaid" premiered in theaters, charming audiences with the tale of a young mermaid who dreams of life on land as a human. Based on a Danish fairy tale first published in 1837, the animated movie quickly gained popularity with the score by Alan Menken, who won an Academy Award for best Original Music Score.
This animated classic has inspired many past and current offerings at the Disneyland Resort. Ariel's Grotto first opened in 1996 at the former site of the Monsanto House of the future in Disneyland Park, allowing Guests to take photos with Ariel at her throne. The location was renamed Triton's Gardens in 2001 when the Ariel's Grotto character dining location opened in Disney California Adventure Park. (In 2008, Triton's Gardens was rethemed to Pixie Hollow.) Ariel continues to greet Guests at Ariel's Grotto restaurant and Fantasy Faire.
During the recent expansion of Disney California Adventure Park, Ariel got her own attraction, The Little Mermaid- Ariel's Undersea Adventure. And Guests can also see their favorite undersea friends in "Fantasmic", Mickey & the Magical Map," "World of Color" and Mickey's Soundsational Parade."
When my daughters were young, they Loved Ariel and we even had 2 cats, Ariel and Eric....Dr Lee

'Walt Disney's Disneyland' premieres.....
Sixty years ago the first "Walt Disney's Disneyland" episode invited eager viewers to learn more about the new theme park under construction and enjoy stories based on its themed "realms" (as Walt initially referred to the lands).
The show was part of a deal that Walt and his brother Roy struck with ABC to help finance Disneyland. In exchange for financial backing, the brothers agreed to produce Disney programming for the network. Walt took this opportunity to not only create wonderful themed stories that he could tie in to the lands being built in the park but also to give viewers a sneak peek of the fun that would await them. True Life adventures, Man in Space, Davy Crockett and The Mickey Mouse Club would provide much of the story background for Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland and Fantasyland, respectively.
"We hope that through our television show that you will join us and take part in the building of Disneyland and that you will find here a place of knowledge and happiness," Walt said in the premiere episode Oct. 27,1954.
The series became "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" in 1961 and continued to change names (and networks) over the 40 years it was on the air. Today, children delight in "The Magical World of Disney Junior," which is inspired by Walt's original program.
