Walt Disney designed disneyland for all to enjoy. From the small child meeting mickey mouse for the first time, teens enjoying all the E-ticket attractions (SPLASH MOUNTAIN,BIG THUNDER,SPACE MOUNTAIN,ETC.) to couples out on a date enjoying the food and fireworks,Walt knew what he wanted.
As a father of two daughters,it was fun to watch them enjoy the park through their years. When they were young, they were "scared of the fireworks" BOOM, BANG, BOOM,with their heads buryed in my shoulder. Then as the years pasted,it was "dad",can you take my friends and me to d-land and pick us up later after the fireworks.
Now that I am retired from disneyland, and having been part of the "magic",my time spent with disneyland went by to fast,so many mermories, wow.

Dr. Lee on Mount Diablo!
The 'Good Doc' enjoys a good workout. Just a few weeks ago while jogging Mt. Diablo near Castle Rock (Northern California), covered with sweat and rather dog tired, I passed two lovely ladies on the trail who were wearing Mickey Mouse shirts! Well, that made me feel right at home, so I introduced myself and told them I worked at the House of Mouse for 25 years! To my surprise, they both grinned ear to ear and told me how they loved Disney films. One of the fine ladies went on to say how she appreciated the family values that Disney has always maintained in their films and theme parks, noting how most companies have forgotten what 'family' is truly all about.
I must agree, Walt believed in family values and always found time to spend every possible moment with this wife and daughters. He even made sure his animators were able to spend time with their families and worked with them around special events such as birthdays, holidays and even studio events. He frequently held parties at his home and insisted his crew bring their children.
One rather sad person once told Walt, "Walt, your movies are corny!". Walt smiled at him and said, "That's OK, I like corn!"
Walt stood by what he believed, he knew what worked and how to make those values work in his productions.

""Sayer"" a third grader,almost forth
Last week I signed a family into the park. One of their kids,"Sayer" told me as we were walking to the main entrance that this was his first time to Disneyland. He also told me that he could not wait to return to school,3rd grade.I asked him why.His reply was that "at school all his friends have been to Disneyland and that they would talk about all their farvoite rides(attractions). He had nothing to say. Not this time however! He wanted to see all the best attractions and he had a list,Tower of Terror, The Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Railroad and so on. When he returns to school I know he will be surrounded by all of his friends, telling them what his favorite attractions are.
Talking to this wonderful young fellow only brings to mind just how successful Walt was in designing the park. Disneyland was designed both children and their parents as a place for all to play and forget that which is outside the burm (the raised durt hill which surrounds the park).
Being able to share the park with family and friends means a tremendous amount to me, I'm grateful for the opportunity to help others experience Walt's genius.

My first assignment as Disneyland, oh those many years ago!
I was so fortunate to have been assigned to work aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat when I first began working at the park in 1981. The Mark Twain was actually a choice attraction normally given to cast members with seniority, that being said, I was very fortunate!
I loved the river, going to work everyday was a wonderful experience and meeting guests was terrific!
