The Artist/Dreamer and the Banker!

When one studies the Disney Bros., the difference between the two is obvious. One is the dreamer, the other, the conservative banker and financier. While their personalities were quite extreme, they were the Yin to others Yang. The perfect combination. One to think of it, the other to finance it! As the years went on, Roy eventually learned that "You can't tell Walt 'No!'" Roy came to the conclusion that is Walt wanted to do it, he was going to no matter what anyone told him. Just think if Disneyland hadn't been built? What a depressing thought!
Even Art Linkletter said it was not going to work, I'm glad he was wrong.

Disney Studio Workshop

Santa would be jealous of this workshop! Wow, it's huge inside and the pieces which are being produced here are beautiful. Sorry I can't show the inside, it's top secret! Ssshhh!!

Celebrating the studio's 50th anniversary

Alice's Adventures!

Putting a cartoon clown into our world had already been done, so Walt did something even more amazing. He placed a little girl into our cartoon world. The rest is Disney history!

Walt's love of animals lives on!

The best years of Walt's life were on his father's farm. There, he learned to appreciate life and developed a love for the animals which filled his busy days.
Even at his own home in California, his wife Lillian once ask to please have the squirrels removed from their property as they were eating all of their lovely fruits and nuts.
Walt replied to his lovely wife, "Well Lilly, you can go to the store, they can't!" The squirrels were left alone.
Keeping this wonderful tradition alive, the Disney Studio has the most lovely collection of tree squirrels living on it's premises. They enjoy the beautiful walnut trees and of course, the many handouts. While there are signs which state 'Do Not Feed The Squirrels', these little fellows seem very well taken care of.

This furry little guy actually climbed down his tree and ran right at me! He thought I had peanuts, but as he got closer he realized that I didn't have any peanuts, but that I was, in fact, just plain nuts! He chattered at me and then ran to some actors who were feeding his friends.

Artwork created upon the passing of Walt.

A few of Walt's personal hats! Wow!

This display was one of my favorites!
Walt has style, no question about it.

The original hat worn by Fess Parker as Davey Crocket!

Ub's amazing multi-plane camera!

Disney Studio Executive Offices

This building is simply incredible!
At the base of this wonderful structure is the walk of legends, it's beautiful and must be seen by any true fan!

Mickey mosaic located on the main floor of the original animation building!

The Office of Great Man Himself, Walt Disney!

The decor has changed, but the feeling one gets walking into this little office is, well, simply awe inspiring. This was the office of Walt Disney. It has been remodeled but much has not changed. Roy's office was right next door is now occupied by Shaun Cassidy Productions.
Walk through these doors and history reveals itself.

This is not the original desk, but the feeling of brilliance which once occupied this room is still present. There is a small walkway along the West wall which led to Walt's secretary. In that small room, Walt would receive treatments for his injured neck, which included traction and heat packs.

This picture shows a young Walt Disney in his office's kitchenette!

As you can see, the kitchenette has changed very little, it has been kept as original as possible. The old fashion steel cabinets with enamel finish are still there and work perfectly.

One of Dr. Lee's favorite Walt Disney quote

Dr. Lee with world famous street sign!

If you watch films of Walt at the studio, this little street marker is often seen. Walt loved it, he felt the sign let everyone remember the studios wonderful past.

Dr. Lee on the set of Flash Forward!

Dr. Lee behind the bar once again!

Well, I can't seem to get away from bars, no matter where I go! This particular bar is an authentic movie set located at the Disney Studios. It is attached to a replica brick firestation!

Disneyland,Walt Disney's Living Legacy

Only Walt Disney's magic could transform an orange grove in Anaheim,California into "The Happiest Place on EARTH."
Walt Disney dreamed of a place where childern and adults could enjoy experiences together and creat lasting memories. According to Walt,"Disneyland is like Alice stepping through the Looking Glass;to step through the portals of Disneyland will be like entering another world. I don't want "Guests" to see the world that they live in while they are in the park.I want them to feel like they're in another world."
After years of planning,Walts dream became a reality on July 17,1955. The park that took little more than a year to build weclomed "Guests"to leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy. The first ticket to Disneyland was purchased by Roy O. Disney, and is currenntly preserved at the Walt Disney Archives in Burbank,California.
A live broadcast on ABC,hosted by Walt's dear friend,Art Linkletter, brought the excitement to the homes of more than 90 million americans.Celebrities including Frank Sinatra,Sammy Davis,Jr.,Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen joined the festivities of the day.Walt Disney himself declared the Park open to the world with a dedication speech in Town Square on Main Street,U.S.A.
Though the first day had its challenges,in less than seven weeks, its one millionth "Guest" walked through the Main Entrance making Disneyland an undoubted success. Even 54 years later,Walt's dream-come-true remains a source of joy and inspiration to "Guests" worldwide.
Each year, Cast Members make dreams come true for millions of "Guests" at the Disneyland Resort.Despite a new era,the vision remains the same to deliver a safe, friendly, unforgettable experience thats brings "Guests" back to relive their fondest Disney memories.

HAUNTED MANSION

FACT OR FICTION...

MANY HAUNTED MANSION TALES ARE TRUE AND OTHERS ARE SIMPLY MYTHS. TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT:

..THE WHITE HEARSE OUTSIDE OF THE HAUNTED MANSION DID NOT CARRY BRIGHAM YOUNG TO HIS FINAL RESTING PLACE.

..NEITHER WALT OR ROY DISNEY'S FACES WERE EVER USED IN THE SINGING BUSTS IN THE GRAVEYARD SCENE.

..THE ORGAN IN THE GRAND HALL SCENE IS THE ACTUAL ORGAN PLAYED BY CAPTAIN NEMO IN 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA.

..FORMER IMAGINEER ROLLY CRUMP,AT WALTS REQUEST, DREW THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT DRAWINGS. WALTS RESPONSE WAS,"THIS STUFF IS REALLY WERID,ROLLY. WHAT IN THE HECK ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH IT?"

TRIBUTE BECOMES ""REALITY""

..IMAGINEER X.ATENCIO PAID TRIBUTE TO SPECIAL-EFFECTS GURU YALE GRACEY WITH A TOMBSTONE LABELED"MASTER GRACEY" LEADING GUESTS TO BELIEVE GRACEY WAS THE MASTER OF THE HAUNTED MANSION.THUS, A DISNEY URBAN LEGEND WAS BORN,NOW ACCEPTED AS PART OF THE ATTRACTION STORY.CAST MEMBERS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO CUT A RED ROSE FROM THE GARDEN AND LAY IT TO REST ON TOP OF HIS TOMBSTONE. THE LEGEND CONTINUES IN THE HAUNTED MANSION MOVIE. "THE MASTER"OF THE MANSION WAS NAMED GRACEY, PAYING TRIBUTE TO YALE AND HIS URBAN LEGEND.

Pepper's Ghost

Did you know that the special ghostly effects within the mansion were developed from a very old illusion which Disney Imagineers found in an antique magic book.

The illusion is called 'Pepper's Ghost" and is based on the reflection of the object (the ghost) into a clear piece of glass, placed appropriately to match the physical props/set where the actual viewer can see. The effect is tremendously successful and the brilliant minds at Disney took it one step further by adding a hearse, open windows, animatronics, sounds and era appropriate dress.

Sadly, Walt passed away during the development of the ride and the designers were lost without his guiding hand. Should it be scary? Should it be funny? If scary, how much scary-ness is acceptable.

Originally planned as a walk-through, it was decided that guests would linger too long within the attraction, so the transportation system designed by imagineers for the World's Fair was incorporated with tremendous success!

Some of original gallery furniture pieces designed by Rolly Crump for the "Museum of the Weird" can still be found within the mansion. The candle sconces were examples his Rolly's wonderfully creative imagination!

There is a wonderful book titled 'The Haunted Mansion-From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies' by Jason Surrell which I highly recommend!

HAUNTED MANSION

40 YRS LATER,STILL...""DYING TO MEET YOU""...

CELEBRATING ITS 40th ANNIVERSARY,THE HAUNTED MANSION CONTINES TO TRANSPORT FOOLISH MORTALS IN DOOM BUGGIES,CAPTURING THE HEARTS OF MILLIONS. WHETHER IT IS SUMMERTIME OR HALLOWEEN TIME,THE FASCINATION WITH THE GHOSTS AND GHOULS OF THE HAUNTED MANSION IS ENDURING.
CONSTRUCTION FOR THE HAUNTED MANSION BEGAN IN 1961 TAKING YEARS TO COMPLETE.BUT THE MANSION REMAINED CLOSED FOR YRS. WHY? A COMMITMENT TO BUILD FOUR ATTRACTIONS FOR THE 64-65 WORLDS FAIR REQUIRED IMAGINEERS TO PUT ASIDE THEIR "GHOULISH"IDEAS FOR A FEW YRS. OPENING AUGUST 9,1969, THE HAUNTED MANSION WAS READY FOR GUESTS "DYING"TO VISIT.
