Disney's Alaskan "True Life Adventures":
When the Disney Wonder began cruising to Alaska on May 3, 2011, it wasn't the first time Disney has had a presence in the state.
There are several movies, documentaries and made-for-TV shows that Disney has made about or set in Alaska.
Most prominent are "Seal Lsland" (1948) and "The Alaskan Eskimo" (1953), both crafted from footage taken by Disney Legends Alfred and Elma Milotte, a husband-and-wife team of nature photographers.
"Seal Island" was the first "True-Life Adventure" and won the Academy Award for Best Two-Reel Documentery Short Subject of 1948. When Walt Disney saw the Milottes' Alasken wildlife footage, he commissioned them to film more, which they did over a year's time in 1947. Walt even traveled to Alaska in August 1947 with his daughter, Sharon, to check in on the Milottes' filming. Captivated by the footage of fur seals off the Alaskan coast, Walt used it to create the 27-minute "Seal Island."
"The Alaskan Eskimo" was the first of many People and Places featurettes and also was developed from the Milotte footage of 1947. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentery Short Subject of 1953.
"A Salute to Alaska"-1967
" A Salute to Alaska" marked Walt Disney's final introduction as the host of his Wonderful World of Color TV series. " A Salute to Alaska" was narrated by Ludwig von Drake and featured figures from Alaska's history including Czarina Anna Ivanovna, Peter the Great, Vitus Bering, and William Seward, all animated by Ward Kimball. Three 16mm films were released in 1973 from footage in " A Salute to Alaska': How Alaska Joined the World, Alaska's Bush Pilot Heritage, and The Alaskan Gold Rush.

Pick-up lines at the bar:
As a bartender at Club 33,The pond (Anahiem Ducks),Mr Stox (Anahiem) and a few private party's, I have heard over the years a few great pick-up lines. These can be used by either male/female :
Let's say I see a pretty woman at a dance,party or some place fun! Getting my courage up, taking that first step, I would walk up to her and ask,"Pardon me, but do you get alot of traffic tickets," and her reply should be "no,"
then I would say," because you have fine written all over you."
Ok, stop laughing,here is another,
Again, see an amazing looking woman, walk up to her and ask,"pardon me, are you from Tennessee," she should say "no," then your reply is, "because you are the only ten-I-see."
Working as a bartender,have meet lots of interesting people, however, thats the fun part,getting paided to talk to friends, family and strangers. Having bartended for the Walt Disney Company was fun. My normal days off were Sunday/Monday and my work hours were Tuesday thru Saturday 10a.m. to 5 p.m.. On Mondays, I would be a room dad for my two daughters at their school K1 thru 7th grade( did this most Mondays for about 9 years, was known as Mr. Williams the Safety Man). Would work at The pond or Mr Stox normally Thursday thru Saturday from approx. 6 p.m. to approx. 8:30 p.m. bartending about 3 nights a week. Working these late shifts allowed me to miss all that traffic on the 91 freeway to Riverside.

New merchandise return policy:
A new 30-day merchandise return policy will be implemented for purchases beginning May 2, 2011 at all Disney-owned-and-operated stores within Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Stores also will introduce and use a new domestic Disney Parks Merchandise Credit for all returns without a receipt. Annual passholders, Disney Vacation Club, cast members, and cast members discounts will not be applicable with the use of the Disney Parks Merchandise Credit.

In 1960, Partners Federal Cerdit Union began at the Disney Studio Lot in Burbank. Courage to commit to zero-waste, Circle D:
From composting horse manure to recycling used horseshoes, Circle D cast members are committed to reducing their waste stream to achieve their zero-waste goal.
Here's a sample of what Circle D diverts from landfills:
...All used horseshoes and stainless steels metals are recycled and old horse accessories are repurposed by Resort Echancement.
...Circle D composts manure, hay and shavings. Resort restaurants partner with Circle D by bringing coffee grounds to be composted as well.
...Soft plastics are recycled, such as bags bedding arrives in.
...Circle D neighbors the Environmental Activity Center, which makes it possible to recycle large quantities of propylene bailing twine used for hay, plus miscellaneous rigid plastics.
...At the cast commissaries, the team plans to use reusable mugs and eco to-go containers,receiving 20 cents off for every meal purchase and beverage refill.
These efforts and the leadership team's support showcases Circle D's COURAGE to commit to simple changes for the environment.
We all seen the horses on Main Street,U.S.A. in Disneyland Park, but do you know where these horses really live? Backstage, north of Frontierland in Disneyland Park, there is a working ranch, called Circle D Corral. I have seen this working ranch when I was backstage,over the years. Way nice!!

...The ranch is currently home to 28 horses, a jersey cow,two miniature donkeys, three turkeys and 15 goats.
...48 cast members work at the ranch.

...The following breeds of horses are represented at Circle D: Percheron, Clydesdale, Belgian and Shire.
...No Disneyland horse works more than 4 hours a day, 3 days a week.
...And, like all cast members, the horses at Disneyland Park always wear their name tags when they are working.

Tinker Bell 1/2 Marathon:
On April 19, runDisney announced the newest race in the runDisney line-up. The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend will be held at the Disneyland Resort, January 27-29, 2012, and is a chance for all women to take on a 13.1 mile challenge with Tink's trademark sassy attitude and sense of adventure. This women's race will allow participants the chance to earn their "wings" with a Tinker Bell-inspired finisher medal after completing the 13.1 miles through Disneyland Park, Disney California Park and the city of Anahiem. Hawai'i, New York and Canada, here we come:
The Disney Cruise Line has announced its 2012 itineraries, which include its most extensive line up ever. Here's a snapshot of where the ships will be headed:
April 29,2012...the Disney Wonder will cruise to the Aloha State on a 15-night voyage from Los Angeles, calling on four Hawaiian ports.
May 25,2012...the Disney Magic will sail 20 cruises from New York, including eight-night voyages to Port Canaveral, Fla., and the Bahamas: five-night cruises to the Canadian ports of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick; and two-night weekend getaways from the Big Apple.
May 28,2012...the Disney Wonder will sail from Seattle to the state of Alaska on seven-night voyages, including a stop in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
September 22, 2012...from Galveston,Texas, the Disney Magic will sail seven-night Pacific Coast cruises calling on San Francisco, San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico.
Have you ever been on a cruise? I have in Apirl/May 2008, Disney Magic, Eastern Caribbean with my then girlfriend and her two kids.
I've been asked,"aren't there lots of kids on Disney Cruises?" "Yes" is the answer. However, with that being said, Disney has many adult activities. On our cruise, we dropped off the kids in the morning or evening at a variety of fun events. This allowed us adult time to shop, hit the bars, go dancing, enjoy adult comedy acts and so on. In other words, whether or not you have kids with you on your cruise, on a Disney cruise you can choose how much contact you have with them. If you go on a Disney Cruise without children, you can avoid kids all together. Disney's Island "Castaway Cay" is reserved exclusively for guests of the Disney Cruises. "Serenity Bay Beach" is on the other side of this island and is reserved exclusively for "adults only." This special destination allows you to receive a decadent massage in an ocean view cabana, relaxing privacy on a white sand beach overlooking the clear turquoise water with swaying palm trees, or simply enjoying a quiet drink at the bar with an unbelievable ocean view.
I must say that those nightly live stage shows and fireworks while at sea were amazing. We enjoyed rotation dining every night. It allowed us the pleasure of a different restaurant nightly, while developing a friendship with our favorite servers at table 74!
Even as a "retired Club 33 cast member" so familiar with Disneys' legendary quality; the incredible amenities, service, food, and attention to detail offered on the Disney Cruise left me speechless! Disney knows how to treat their guests and if you are considering a cruise, take it from DR LEE, a Disney Cruise is simply the best. You will be as I, talking about all those memories for years.

Earth Day, April 22,2011:
Now that the tax man has come and gone(April 18th), let's turn all our energy to "Earth Day."
Last week, a close friend of my asked me to go with him and his son to Glamis,near Brawley,California to ride the sand dunes with their sand toys.(Quads,sand rail,motor cycles) Since I have never done this before, I saided "sure why not!!"
Our first day there was windy, the second rainy and the third so amazing, unbeliveable amount of stars that night. Sitting there next to the fire, looking up,WOW,all those stars,to see the white of the Milkly Way,sure feel small! However, feeling small was ok. During the day as most were enjoying their "sand toys" I was wondering the sand dunes with a large plastic trash bag. Long story short, when we left on Sunday,I had collected 3 bags of cans,plastic bottles,assorted metals,and paper from those sand dunes. We even found a new car,burned, up-side down and reported it to the ranger.
So my challenge to all of you, on Earth Day, stop for a second and give thanks, then try to do something positive for Mother Earth? If you can, buy local food staples,ride-share,recycle,and when you travel some place, take along a trash bag and collect and get some exercise. After my day of collecting with gloves on,walking thru those sand dunes,slept really good. Returning home, all those recyclables were taken to our local recycler. Just a note here, was offered money for my recyclables,"no way" was my answer, don't do it for the money, do it for Mother Earth.

My Career at the Disneyland Resort:
Seems like yesterday year,remember filling out that job application and waiting for that letter approx. a week later. Opening this letter,I remember telling everyone I was going to work at Disneyland.
After a few days at the Disney University,I was to be an "attraction host" in Fontierland on the Mark Twain. My first day was 12-12-81. Was un-aware at the time,but as a new cast member,operating the Mark Twain was only for the cast members with years of senority and most new cast members would be sent to the Jungle Cruise.
After a few months, I was sent to the Tree House,Shooting Gallery then finally to the Jungle Cruise. It was fun being the skipper, my wife told me that one night, I sat up in bed in my sleep and saided my entire spieal!
I wanted to go full time with Disney and the only openings for full time with benefits was in foods and some placed called Club 33. Most cast members wanted to transfer out of foods and into attractions, but not me, Club 33 here I come.
Started as a dish washer and soon,like about 3 months, was trained as a busboy,then lead and finally "Bartender." The rest is history and well,you know the rest of the story.

After a few days at the Disney University,I was to be an "attraction host" in Fontierland on the Mark Twain. My first day was 12-12-81. Was un-aware at the time,but as a new cast member,operating the Mark Twain was only for the cast members with years of senority and most new cast members would be sent to the Jungle Cruise.
After a few months, I was sent to the Tree House,Shooting Gallery then finally to the Jungle Cruise. It was fun being the skipper, my wife told me that one night, I sat up in bed in my sleep and saided my entire spieal!
I wanted to go full time with Disney and the only openings for full time with benefits was in foods and some placed called Club 33. Most cast members wanted to transfer out of foods and into attractions, but not me, Club 33 here I come.
Started as a dish washer and soon,like about 3 months, was trained as a busboy,then lead and finally "Bartender." The rest is history and well,you know the rest of the story.

Anything is possible:
When it comes to a career with The Walt Disney Company there's no truer phrase than "it's a small world after all." You never know where you will find yourself next,Disneyland Park...Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park...maybe even the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
One needn't look any further than the beginning of The Walt Disney Company for a bit of inspiration. In 1923, with just $40 in his pocket, Walt Disney joined his brother Roy in Los Angeles,California. The Midwest-born duo started a motion picture studio out of their uncle's garge, and today that same company is cherished worldwide and ranked #14 on the Fortune's list of "World's Most Admired Companies." The Disney brothers' story is one of the great American success stories, full of struggles and triumphs. And it's cast members,just like DR LEE,who carry on the Disney legacy to dream the impossible and create true magic.

History of the Disney University:
Every Disneyland resort cast member passes through the halls of the Disney University at some point in their Disney career, beginning with Traditions. But where and when did the Disney University begin? In 1962, Van Arsdale France was inspired by Ed Ettinger, Public Relations director who exclaimed," What we need is something that affects the total organization. Some tired training program won't do it. We need something like a university...a program which pioneers new ground in this revolutionary concept of Walt's." And thus the University of Disneyland was created. The name would later be changed to Disney University and replicated in every Disney site around the world. The university's humble beginnings began in a trailer on Harbor Blvd. complete with one projector and the resort's first IBM eletric typewriter. One of the first classes designed after the orientation program was called "You're On Stage at Disneyland," focusing on the product cast members deliver to guests- happiness-and emphasized that we are in the show business, a sentiment that continues to be part of who we are as Disneyland Resort cast members.

Apirl 22,2011, Mother Earth Day:
Here are some ways to help our Mother Earth:
1...Reduce,reuse,recycle! Reduce the use of disposables; use reusable plates and silverware if you are dining in. Choose a reusable cup, mug, or water bottle instead of disposable cups. Recycle cans, bottles, newspapers and anything recyclable.
2...Use water wisely, everyone knows how precious and limited our water resources are. Look for ways to reduce your water usage, like fixing leaky faucets and running toilets, reducing water usage when cleaning and irrigation and saving water while cooking and washing dishes.
3...Lights out! Conserve energy! Turn off lights when not in use, power down computers at the end of the day, and unplug any unnecessary electronic devices.
4...Carpooling,vanpooling,biking,walking,work a 4 day work week instead of 5 or taking the train are earth-friendly ways to commute to work.
5...Get outside more, plant a garden,plant a few trees! Trees are like big air conditioners, providing shade to your home,there-by not having to use that air conditioner,let's not forget, great for a tree swing! Planting your own garden, growing your own food has many benfits, like,getting you outside,fresh air, getting your bare hands in the dirt(no gloves,feel the good earth),and you will not have to travel to the store to buy it.
6...One thing as a cast member at Club 33 that I started, was the glass bottle recycling program. Approx. 1990, with my managers approval, glass bottles, from the kitchen,bar and glass water bottles from the dining rooms were placed in plastic bins. At the end of the day, all glass was removed downstairs and placed in a huge metal bin. At first it was a work in progress,then slowly, the volume increased to were that huge metal bin was picked up every other day. As of this writing, that glass recycling is still at Club 33.
7..At the Disneyland Resort,all the on-stage trash bins are collected,emptied and removed backstage and sorted for plastic bottles,soda cans and anything else recyclable. All the mill shops,painting shops,in other words thru-out the Disneyland Resort, "RECYCLING" is a way of life for all cast members.
